My Story
I have owned and ridden horses my entire life. I first sat on a horse at 10 days old and have been hooked ever since. In the early years, I rode many youngsters and 'naughty' ponies. From my first pony Fred, a dark bay Dartmoor X Shetland, to Tommy, a little grey pony with a big attitude and my ever-patient Shetland Pony Flo, I would ride anything I could.
I began my riding career in the Chiddingfold Branch of The Pony Club, where I was a regular on many teams in Dressage and Show jumping before taking the next step up to BSJA.
My show jumping career started with Kilcannon Bullet (Flick), a 12.1hh strawberry roan mare. Together, we qualified for the Golden Bears final at the Scope Festival at our first attempt and from there, we went from strength to strength and were soon joined by Fontmel Rasputin (Timmy), quickly taking me up to the top 128cm classes.
After many successful years show jumping working my way up the 138cm and 148cm classes, I then moved on to the new challenge of Eventing with my 148cm show jumper, Langarth Ringo. Ringo was a cross country machine and, despite his size and age, flew around courses with great speed and schooled up to pre-novice. Although Ringo didn't enjoy his dressage, he had two successful seasons of eventing before sadly going lame, and was then diagnosed with Cushings disease. After a few months off, he was sound and happy, meaning that he could start competing again. Sadly however, just as he was about to start eventing again, he partially ruptured his deep digital flexor tendon and everyone thought that he would be retired for good. Ringo had other ideas however, and came back stronger than ever. Due to his rehab, his flatwork had improved tremendously and he took up Veteran Showing as well as his dressage and was rarely out of the placings, even gaining the Veteran Pony Ridden Champion, and reserve Veteran Ridden Champion at the ESUK final (which included some bucking in the lap of honor).
It was during this time that I started my Veterinary Nursing degree at Middlesex University in London. Four years at university and working on building my placement hours didn't leave much time for riding, but I managed as much as I could at weekends and evenings, and was able to keep everyone ticking over.
Since qualifying, I have been focusing more on working with and producing youngsters and novice horses. Sandhole Bailey was backed and produced up to Prelim Dressage and 70-80cm jumping, Royal Polly Pocket has competed up to Prelim Dressage and was taught all of her lateral movements before she took a few years out to have her foal , Opposition SOS (Dash). Polly has now been retired due to Kissing Spines, but is currently enjoying the laid back life of just eating, sleeping and playing. Royal Tigerlilly competed up to 90cm show jumping and schooled around Pre-novice and Novice cross country.
After leaving the Veterinary industry in 2019, I started my freelancing work, initially just with horses, but quickly expanding to take on small furries too. Since then, my client base has grown to include horses, cats, dogs, tortoises, rabbits, chickens and fish. I enjoy the variety of my work and getting to know each of my fury, feathered or scaled clients. Their individual characters means that no two days are ever the same.
